Victor Maldonado
My compositions are built on chance, driven by movement and sustained by repetition and recombination. Mixing the aesthetics of folk art, family photos, advertising and Catholic iconography I construct visual phenomena inspired by songs of migration, the promise of transformation and the loss inherent in a post-colonial condition.

The scale and treatment of the works are intended to call attention to the silhouettes created by modernist abstraction; vessels primed to retell the stories of my Mexican migrant experience in unlikely forms combining painting and printmaking techniques.
